Anyone had any luck with used steering boxes?
I over adjusted mine. The allen bolt now has about a half inch of free play, and my steering is back to crap. Has anyone had any luck with installing a used box? I would imagine I would want to clarify to the salvage yard that the steering wheel be in the center position before the box was removed, right? Any tips? Thanks.

Also, the rebuild kit will pretty much only seal leaks, right? I'm assuming it would do nothing for play in steering. Could someone please clarify this? Thanks, guys.

You rotated the bolt CCW to tighten, right? Its not supposed to be set tightly, that is when the wear will occcur. Just run it in til the steering is binding a little then back it out (CCW to tighten, CW to loosen)
I found a used steering box off a used 123 and its been fine ever since but it must have been from a fairly low mileage car. I saw a NA 300D in a wrecking yard a few years ago, it only had a little over 100K showing on the odometer. I should have snagged the steering box but they are real PITA to get off (heavy)

No, the boxes that I have tried have already been adjusted all of the way out.
