Bringing another puppy home from the pound
That's what MOH says about getting another MB diesel. I looked at this car on ebay earlier in the week, than Wham - it's parked off the highway near work. The interior is very nice in this D and except for the rear end damage car was a looker.
Now the $2 question - how extensive is it to fix something like this? |
how much are they asking for it. it looks like that would take alot of work to fix and alot of $$. if it was more than 2K unless u had the funds to fix it, i would pass. looks like the whole trunk is gone. but thats just my $00.02
|
Looks very totaled to me. In my state it would receive a salvage title lowering its value further.
I'd guess $3-5K in damage at retail body shop rates. The seats also look to have more than 140K wear on them to my eye. You know how bad these old odometers are. My 85 with 311K looked like those seats before I rebuilt the bottoms. |
Auction ends tomorrow at $1K now. Really just wanted to pull engine, trans, etc. But it sure was a well cared for car before it took it in the rear.
|
It would make an excellent parts car.

I know the "r" word very well. Ranks up there with the phrase "All I have to do is..." re...pair, ...place, ...build, ...move, ...adjust, etc.
Been there, do that!:D |
I like how it syas slight damage! I wouldn't call that slight damage. Too bad it got crunched it lookes like it was sweet car. Would make a great parts car. Lots of good body parts left, and the interior and engine are probably all in great condition.

1K is too much for a parts car. Green coolant too...ick.

One of shortcommings is welding - basicaly I know zilch about it. Maybe I could just cut the back out and put a plank bed and stake side. Then everyone could flame me.

That is beyond optimistic...... And that is way more than slight damage!! |
This car needs more than a welder. You need a frame master to pull on that quarter before you cut it off. The unibody is very stout on these car and it takes a really big hit to crush it up like that. You see where the door gap is completely closed and the door overlaps the quarter? You can simply cut and weld it and hope everything will line up. You have to pull on the crushed part before you cut into it.
And thats a lot of cashola for a car wrecked as much as this one. I paid $1300 for this and I think i over paid as well. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y142/jfboy/300d1.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y142/jfboy/300d2.jpg |

Well two days and the seller has not responded to my email to meet me and let me hear/drive the beast. That throws a flag on the field
I also believe the current high bidder is a "shill" as he is also high bidder on the sellers other vehicle in auction. |
the 3 feedback, and user name change are what throws the flag for me...
John and don't the pop rivits on the vin plate look a bit new? how clear do you think the FRAME title would be? John |
He has a 124 listed now - interesting the first picture has Palm Trees in the background. Must be a part of Jackson I have not visited. LOL
|
as a side question, what is the metal box with the coils of wire in them in front of the expansion tank on the fender?
and what years did they arrive? the White SD i am waiting on has it... and I am now thinking it is an 85. my car also has the short tach amp, and the knob on the PS lid... I gotta check the build date on the car! John http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...ech/e0c4_4.jpg |
