Rattling Chirp from Thermostat Relay

Hi guys,
I've got a 300d that when I turn on the heat I hear a chirping sound like a relay is trying to click. This happens after I've been driving for a while.

Turning the dial to all red (30C I think) when it's as hot as it goes, the chirp stops.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

You're listening to the monovalve cycle open and closed.

With the temperature wheel on full warm, the valve remains open and it does not cycle.

The question is "why"?

The SD recently did the same thing and I had to unplug the auxiliary water pump to stop the behavior. I'm suspicious of that pump........possibly affecting the operation of the monovalve..........but, it's a relatively new pump and the amperage checks out...........

Hi Brian,
Will changing the monovalve fix the prob? Mines bad (no heat over 60mph) so I'll be changing next week. Really the chirps not a big deal but it makes my wife nervous once in a while

Well, if the diaphargm is torn, I would doubt that the valve would make the shuttle noise that you're hearing. And, I think it's a control problem........not the monovalve itself.

I'm really not sure what causes it, but, I disconnected the aux. pump because I'll bet that the CCU will get fried in short order with such a loud sound coming from the monovalve.

Further investigations required.
