190D manual stop location?
A simple question:
Does my 1984 190D have a manual stop, and if so, where is it? It had a problem shutting off today for the first time, so I hope that's not a bad sign. If it continues, does that point to the vaccuum system? Thanks, Jason

Locate the injection pump. On the driver side there will be a brass arc with a flange at the end opposite the pivot. There should be a red decal with the word STOP.

It's that arc just above the blue identification tag. The vacuum shut-off actuator is the turret just above the arc. Sixto 93 300SD 3.0 |

Yes, it is located on the right side of your IP and should say stop and have a red color. Sometimes they get really dirty and you can't see the writing anymore. You might need a flashlight and a long screwdriver to shut it down because it's buried under the intake manifold behind the air filter housing.
For the shut off you probably have vacuum issues, get a mightyvac and test every vac line for leaks and plug the leaky lines with golf tees until you can replace the bad lines. I had the same problem a few weeks ago and it turned out to be the vac lines for the EGR were leaking. I put 2 golf tees in the leaky lines now it shuts off instantly. The brown vac line is your shut off so you should start there and make sure that when you pump the mightyvac on that line it should lower the stop lever if there is oil in that line you need to replace the shutoff valve on top of the IP (be careful of runaway). You can remove the air filter and housing to get a better view and more room to work with. The vac system is not very complex and will make a world of difference with shifting, climate and shutdown. Hope this helps! |
