One cool thing about a gutless motor is they seem to go many many miles, just ask at 240D owner.

The 6.5TD was also sold in the smaller Tahoe. A boss at one of my old jobs had a Green 1998 2-door 4WD Tahoe with the 6.5TD.

I forgot about the 6.5 in the Tahoes and Suburbans. I had one in a '95 truck that kept eating injection pumps, other than that it wasn't a bad engine. One thing I did like was that GM included a water filter on the bottom of the fuel filter that was clear and could be drained off. No where near as good as a Cummins though IMHO . I think the Excursion is even a little bigger than a Suburban. I had a Ford dealer give me one as a loaner once. It was bigger than my F-150.

Which diesel pickup truck is the best these days? I need a 2500 (250) to haul my skidsteer around. My gasser Chevy is rusting away.

That's sounds like a pretty sweet ride. I've always liked the 2-door 4WD American cars, most of all the Bronco. Wonder if anyone has ever dropped a Ford diesel in one.

My friend has a 91 F-250 Extra Cab diesel that is awesome, I like that truck a lot. You can do just about anything with it, except turn tight corners.

Buy a diesel truck if you want to go deaf

Enjoy the noise of a diesel truck. Buy a hearing aid, you'll need it later on.

Really? Especially that Duramax engine.....

My 6.5 in my Suburban was really that loud. Maybe your thinking of the 7.3? Never drove one in a truck, but in my
Thomas School bus it wasn't that bad. YOU MUST HAVE SENSITIVE EARS!

Well, I use it as a 2nd car, RV hauler, Boat hauler, ATV trailer hauler, dog carrier (3 large dogs), people hauler, newspaper (5000 copies) delivery vehicle, etc, etc. Now, if I were to get a replacement for this vehicle, what would it be? A car to drive around, a minivan for driving the dogs around and a truck to haul. What is the parking space required for 3 vehicles? What is the cost of 3 such reliable vehicles? Insurance? Maintenance? The Excursion is not a good single purpose vehicle. It is a good all around vehicle. So yes, you are going to see me driving around with it all alone. What of it? If you have a better solution, lets hear it.

No you don't. You are taking words I said and adding others to it to make your argument. Similar to your argument that you are better than 3/4 of the vehicles on the road, etc, etc.

My contention was that you are a "C" grade student yapping about how someone should study smarter or harder or both because they are a "D" student. Not that you need to sore perfect tests and what not but that you be somewhere in the "A"s.

I tow where I go riding. I towed a 1 place enclosed trailer going up Scenic Bypass 12 in Utah. Going 30 mph at WOT. No thanx. Scary enough for me. I wanted to add forced induction to the GMC Yukon XL but it was cheaper to go with the Powerstroked Excursion since Dad's 99 F350 had a camper on it and hauled a trailer up with no problems.

That said, unless you must have diesel, I'd go gas.

Some are doing that but I am not sure you want to do that unless you are driving enough to justify it

Not in the PS Excursion, you don't.

Unless you can get a later year 6.0, like an 05 or 06, I'd stick with the 7.3. I'd get the ones 01 or older because they have Forged Metal Rods. Some 01s have the diode in the trans which causes a screw up but if you are careful, you should be ok. There is a way to check for the rods to see if they are Forged or Metal.

Easy there big fella.

No need to justify to me - I'm not looking for a fight. You're clearly getting the use out of this vehicle for which it was intended. RV hauler, boat hauler, ATV trailer hauler, big-dog carrier. An Excursion is a good vehicle for all of these purposes.

What makes me laugh is when I see someone carting around a 5-year-old and an 8-year-old in an Excursion with no trailer hitch. If you're not using the truck to tow, then why not drive something that actually drives like a car?

To each his own, however.

Yes it is. But I can't have everything I want so I tend to use it as my 2nd car. Otherwise I'd have to have yet another vehicle to manage. In the summer, I use my Vette because I like to play with it.

I don't know about that. Me, I prefer to drive the car if I can help it. More responsive and more fun around the bends. Even the wife's E300 is more fun. With the Ex, I have to be more careful when going 65 around the bends. With the E300, I can take it to 85, not saying I do but I can, in theory. However, being that the Ex is a 2nd car, the wife has her E300 so sometimes if I need something from the store, I have to jump in the Ex.

Before you have to eat your foot for lunch, you may wish to stop yapping. I've never owned a vehicle with an engine larger than 2.5 litres-- I've no use for one. I don't haul, I don't cart around 6 people, I don't have dogs, horses or other large domesticated animals.

I'm just a commuter that doesn't need a monster truck to function in daily life-- how is it being stubborn or ignorant to say that others may actually need a large luxuriously equipped schoolbus SUV?

Don't try to turn this **** you stirred around on me, kiddo-- I've been around quite some time and I'm not trying to hear some little chihuahua mutha****a whenever he's going to try and read me for trash by making huge character judgements based on his own opinions.

There are uses for large vehicles-- leave it at that.

You need to take a chill pill dude, you're on the attack mode against me for no valid reason.

Yes there are certainly valid reasons why one would need a big SUV. The originator of this thread is one example. AK Lim is another example. There are lots.

There are lots and lots of people who buy big ass SUVs (Excursion is one example) just because. They think it makes them safe and they don't care about anything else beyond that. They don't haul anything. They don't have 3 big dogs. They just use it as an in-town commuter. I see people like this *all the time*. Plodding down the road getting 10 MPG with their "Support our Troops" ribbons plastered on the tailgate, one driver and maybe a kid in the back.

If you want to stand up and defend those people just so you can ***** me out and call me a little chihuahua, then fine, be a d*ck.
