How critical is the tightening torque on the D's? I tightened mine by feel similar to what i thought the torque was when I loosened it.

Is there a particular torque wrench that would work on the valves?

have fun trying to torque it and not have the clearence change. Last one I did I just tightened it as much as I could with my wrench but it still took two hands to keep the adjuster from moving. I haven't had a problem doing that.

murdock, I am not talking about the valve gap. I am referring to the torque of the nuts.

Maintainence manual does not give any torque specs. Eaiser to have a helper continually check clearance while you tighten down on lock nut. A friend did it by himself, I'm not that talented. Special wrenches EXTREMELY helpful.

Just use German torque. Guten Tight.

Yeah, helper definitely a plus. My son helped me when we did it. As to special wrenches, I ain't payin' $65 for Hazets. I recently bid on a set on ebay but when it went over $20... they can have it. I believe it sold for $39+ shpg.

You'd be surprised what you can do with a torch to a "long", open end 14mm wrench. It looks better than any "special" wrench.

Yup, I've made many a custom wrench via that method, run to kragen or the like and plop down $1-1.50 for a combo wrench of desired size, torch craft to your needs, thin to needs with a grinding wheel (and quenching dish to retain hardness)...I have quite a collection of "distributor wrenches". And the pretty bluish rainbow chrome effect is just sort of an added custom flare bonus,lol.
