If you part it out, will you consider selling the head? PM me.

adsitco sells rebuilt engines. But i dont know if they rebuilt the 3.5 liter engines with the new rods.

Id email them and ask if they have rebuilt the 3.5L with the new rods, if not id say drop in the 3.0L 603. More reliable.

http://www.adsitco.com/category.asp?CID=295

If you decide to part out the engine ill buy the turbo from you.

You'd probably be taking a big chance putting a donor in there. i think a rebuild will cost you big $$$$$$$$$$$$.

Just Curious, did you buy it off of e-bay a few months ago?? Just find a 3.0L and put it in there. You'll be sacrificing a bit of power, but gaining a lot of reliability. If you're doing a 617, you'll need a different tranny.

3.0 drops right in. You have transfer just about everything from the 3.5 that's bolted to the block but that's just gaskets and time.

See if Hit-Man-X has a 3.0 short block for you. Outside of the block you'll need $3-400 in gaskets and parts you'll want to change. It's a good time to fit new engine mounts, vacuum pump if you have the old one, fan clutch, injector line clips, etc. which will drive up the cost but aren't mandated by the swap. Short block needed no work beyond cleaning and all the parts I needed off the 3.5 block were good.

If you're paying someone to do it, don't take a chance with a used block.

I looked in to a adsitco reman they use the old rods too ! they said they found the problem w the 3.5 was the head not the rods the head would warp andleak coolent into the engine and bend the rods ! anyway they want $6000 for the long block ! You have to ask yourself wow, is it worth it ?

I wouldn't buy a rebuilt anything from adsitco. Metric Motors, or MB direct is the only place to get rebuilt 603's IMHO. They are just to rare, not enough people do them to know how to properly rebuild one.

Depending on the mileage the head is probably fine, you just need a short block. A new one is about $4k-$5k from MB last I checked. MB rebuilds come with a 4 year unlimited mileage warranty. That warranty alone is worth an extra few bucks to me. I wouldn't want to shell out $5k then have it blow up 2 years from now.

Seriously, evaluate the risk. If you put that much money into the car, can you recover it if/when you sell the car? Do you have sufficient insurance coverage if you lose the car? Are there other cars that will satisfy you just as well for the same investment?

And a question to Adsit = what do they do in their rebuilds to resolve the issue of warping heads?

There's no power sacrifice with the swap to a 3.0 liter. The 3.0 liter engine just delivers its power differently. IOW, less off the line, more up top. Same horsepower.

Forget any 350 engine, new or used, and find a decent used 3.0 liter longblock if you plan to drive the car for a long time.

i suggest this is the best idea. 3 liter block with the later head.

Torque is the distinguishing feature of the 3.5. Even without boost the 3.5 feels healthy off the line. With the 3.0 I'm back to feeling the turbo kick in. Also I'm not sure how the 3.5 IP governor and transmission are set but my SD shifts around 4500rpm with the pedal shy of the kickdown switch. My 87 SDL (3.0 IP and transmission) shifts closer to 5000rpm. I'm not sure a 3.5 IP will let a 3.0 block rev to its heart's content :/
