This Ford sounds horrible!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkB5nfx9onY

25 degrees, and listen to that looping idle and nailing! My 23 year old shot 617 sounds a heck of a lot better than that at 25 degrees.

Two months ago I sold an item on eBay. The buyer showed up, saw my diesel Mercs and we got to talking diesel. He said that he was a diesel mechanic at a Ford dealership and that the Power Stroke engines keep him well employed .

Don't know how their GP system works, but if I owned it I'd learn quick.

Sounds like he needs four or five new ones.

I wonder if he even glowed it. That engine would typically need a 10-15 second glow. The one that I started after a proper glow had no issues and no cranking time.

my dad has an 88 ford with the 7.3L diesel. and it has an issue like that. he knows all about his tuck, and that engine, hes changed the glowplugs, and the damn thing still starts like that even after letting them glow. he did some tests and they are all functioning properly, but the truck still starts like crap. hes going to run some cans of diesel purge throught it, but if that doesn't work its off to have the injectors rebuild... poor old ford, i like that truck.

well folks, thats a bad motor to start with and that video is likely there for a reason... something bad is happening. Those 6.0's eat injectors and it sounds like he's missing a few. He's got enough compression (on that new of a truck) that glowplugs likely aren't the problem.

My dads Powerstroke sounds absolutely fabulous. As soon as its started (which at 10 degrees without being plugged in with a known 4 bad glow plugs, can take around 10 seconds) it runs strong and happy, due to the electronic controls that bump the idle up and make it run smooth and strong.

Sorry if this is turning into a rant... but I just love ford diesels. Sure Cummins are great, but you can't beat a Ford truck. check this out... http://www.superdutydiesel.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9447

Could it be that the variable vane turbo got coked up and is screwing up the airflow?

That's a crappy recording, guys. Jeez! I am always amazed when folks post a crappy MPEG with sound and ask "Does my car sound normal?" It does have a funny lope to it, but the guy's probably chipped it and done God knows what to it.

I just sold my 89 7.3 F250 4x4. That truck just wouldn't die. Like my MB diesels, it needed to be plugged in in cold weather, but it always started for me.
