83 240D fuel sending unit interchange with 83 300D?

Will a fuel sending unit from an 83 300D interchange with a 83' 240D?

Same fuel tanks I believe. Or to put it another way I have not heard any different other than the waggons.
Should go with no problems in my opinion. You could check mercedeshop parts catalog lists for the two cars as well. Same replacement part#s same part.

Some (or all??) of the 240's had smaller tanks than the 300D's but the senders were interchangable on most of them.

Performance Parts listed the VIN range for the two types of senders.

Guess I was just lucky. Got junkyard senders for replacements with no regard for model other than 123 diesls and they always seemed to fit okay. Might have to become a little more selective now.
Just checked mercedes shop parts. There aparently are two senders. If you are gettin used I would list what years and model cars senders are the same as yours before I left. They seem to start at about 200.00 new so used might be good. Sorry about my previous error. Actually good it occured perhaps as my good circmstance up to now might have ended otherwise. Some 240d senders fit 300ds apparently and are interchangable while others do not. Thanks for the correction.

90 ohms empty (right side up), near zero ohms full (upside down). Low fuel contact should close when empty too.

Check your replacement sender out with an ohm meter as suggested. Why not check the one you removed as well? More important is to describe what your original gauge was doing. These sendors creat lots of problems. The sender must be eliminated first on these models as you have tried to do. Various problems are very common with them.
