Alternator belt need to be on to start motor,wont start
Im in the process of getting an 83 300cdt started ,pulled the valve cover and checked the valve adjustment,a ok.I did have problems with the engine turning via the power steering pump .I eventually just bumped the starter to get the lobes in line for the check.This leads me to my question,I removed the belts for the reason to eliminate any frozen pulleys.Heres my steps so far.
1)check valve adj. ok 2)pulled belts except ps belt. 3)fuel can is supply reservoir and both hoses are at the bottom of can,new filter. 4)cleaned body ground and neg battery ground 5)replaced all glow plugs and did diagnostic (diesel giant)on relay checked ok,3 gps were bad so I went with 5 new ones. 6)hot battery 7)turns over fast enough My steps that are yet to be done 1)crack all fuels lines a full turn and crank for fuel delivery at all lines. 2)compression test the cylinders (I know this should have been first ,I should make no excuses for my self except eagerness to hear it run. The reality is the compression is everything. ANY OTHER CHECKS OR TRICKS? |

sounds like you have it covered, pump the bleeder until NO air bubbles are bubbling in the can. then crack each injector line and make sure each one is getting fuel. it should start.

I remember someone suggesting on taking out the injectors and inspecting them for clogging the fuel from delivery,Ive done this before and these babies are tough to crack open .A good soaking and cleaning of the injectors in order.I reported on another 79 300cd I had bought roughly a year ago with a no start issue,this is an 83 300cd , clean with service records.The engine turns over nice and fast .I did notice really bad filters when inspecting the low fuel in it.Im only guessing, but I do believe they just ran this car out of fuel when trying to start it with 2 glow plugs working.
