Unhappy 83 wagon - after filter change no pressure in line

-- i recently let my wagon sit 4 a month without trying 2 crank it - when i did i noticed the glow plug light was not on and it would not crank - i killed the battery trying --- this car has always been hard 2 crank in cold weather - so using a bosch plug i had laying around i replaced one of the worst plugs(which i used my volt meter 2 find) and using starter fluid it started but then the RPms shot up and it made this weird clacking noise - i shut it off - thinkin' maybe the starter fluid was a bit much 4 it -- ooops ... when the other 4 plugs arrived i replaced all the shwag autolite plugs with bosch - and changed both fuel fliters and was ready 2 try again --- nowmy problem is that i can't get pressure in the fuel line - i have a hand pump but it doesn't do anything - i must have pumped that thing 500 times and nada ... what more can i do ?and yes i opened the bolt on top of filter housing -

Did you fill the secondary filter with fuel or something before installing it? Do you have the new style hand pump?

That's an old style pump, known to leak air. Newer pump is spring loaded and doesn't need to be turned. I'd try replacing the pump.

You might try priming the pump through the flexible fuel line upstream from the lift pump.

The part about the "weird clacking noise" has me a little concerned.
