Guys....

synthetic vs silicone.
dot 4 vs dot 5

I don't want silicone anything in my garage.

AFAIK, the valvoline syn brake fluid is the only synthetic brake fluid you will normally see 'on a shelf' in a local parts store.

I also use ATE brake fluid. Just order 1/2 dozen cans, every other year, and change out every car I have.

I used to use Castrol LMA untill all local auto parts stores stopped carrying it.

I think I'd probably like to use better than generic brake fluid, in my better than generic cars.

Me, I simply use the Febi Dot 4 fluid. I'm not racing or going down mountains, so I don't think I'm going to be boiling any fluid.

From everything I have read, using synthetic fluid is an absolute no no. I fail to understand the reasons that people refuse to use the specified fluids.

Steve

If you didnt already know, Febi's fluids are all synthetics. And are just a cheaper alternative of the real MB stuff. Same formula, just cheaper and different name.

Also im not sure what you have read, but standards have changed. MB's ATF is a synthetic ATF, probably in 85 it was a dino but standards change throught the years...

MB also recommends mobil 1 synthetics. So i dont see how im refusing to use the specified fluids if MB recommends synthetics!?
