Dot 4 plus?
Can't find anything anything better than "meets or exceeds DOT 3 and DOT4" so, is this safe to use, in a W123?
|
Should work well!!!
I changed (renewed) my brake fluid about 6 months ago with Valvoline SynPower Full Synthetic Brake Fluid that exceeds DOT3 and DOT4, have not had any problems thus far......

Same stuff I use in all my vehicles. Simplifies bleeding and flushing. |
im using dot4p, no probs so far, over 3 months ago

DON'T USE DOT 5. You would have to flush your system completely and do it more often or so I have seen others do.

I think the original question was in-ability to find Dot 4 Plus brake fluid. You can get it at the dealer.
Me, I simply use the Febi Dot 4 fluid. I'm not racing or going down mountains, so I don't think I'm going to be boiling any fluid. From everything I have read, using synthetic fluid is an absolute no no. I fail to understand the reasons that people refuse to use the specified fluids. Steve |

I've been using synthetic brake fluid for almost 2 years now. Never had any brake issues.
I think there are some old wives tales running around here. |

Thanks to all, and esp. Aklim, for the interesting article.

I alternate use of ATE TYP 200 with ATE Super Blue, both of which are DOT4. The former is amber and the latter is (duh) blue, so it's easy to see when the fluid is completely changed out.

Does anyone know how to decrease fuel preassure to injectors on an 84 300D non-turbo fuel pump?
|
I used DOT 5 on a restoration I did on a drum-braked vehicle about 10 years ago. It was a complete rebuild so there was no contamination with non synthetic fluids.
If you use synthetic, make certain that you have ALL the old fluid out. Do NOT mix DOT 4 and DOT 5. There were MANY early reports about synthetic fluid allowing air into the system--especially Corvette disc systems (IIRC). |
Havoline Synthetic is DOT4 or DOT4 plus. It's fine to mix with regular DOT3 and DOT4 brake fluid since all brake fluid is synthetic anyway. It's SILICONE DOT5 that you don't want to use/mix with other brake fluid. There is a difference.

this be going back some time. vehicle in question - a 74 ford econoline van. for the record, drums all around. in that day there was a promotion. at local store. 1 quart of synthetic (dot5) with rebate. my cost before sales tax, $.99. 'drained'. without being overly concerned. or careful to extract all of the original. this be in time frame when at&t split. this be a telephone company van. 're-filled'. no problem. think the stuff was in there for 8 years before i sold the bugger. my story. and true. no problems. am however of problems when the conversion is made without proper dillegence. eom.
