How long is it going to take you to use 55 gallons? You are going through a lot of effort to save about a dollar a gallon, or about $60 total. If you have to drive 140 miles, well that's some fuel cost.
And what if you don't use all 55 gallons? Say, for example, that you use 3/4 of it before the bottom of the barrel starts to rust out. Then you haven't saved any money at all, and in fact, may have to pay to get rid of what you couldn't use. This is some seriously false economy. |
NOT A GOOD IDEA.
Have the company deliver it, they will deliver to anywhere but an apartment complex. Soon Walmart will have all their gas line antifreeze 75% off. Small bottles easy to handle. And the price actually is in line with the 55 gallon barrel price. But the walmart cashier will give you a funny look when you buy 6 cases of gasline antifreeze. Better yet burn WVO/RUG instead of making biodiesel. Marty |

If thats the case, I'll take their whole inventory :D from the 3 stores local to me... |
for the record, a PLASTIC 55 gallon drum will not fit in the trunk, but it will fit in the back seat...
a full drum of methanol will not however fit in any sedan I am driving... John |

Oh,,, BTW, unless you have a barrel mover, don't even think about being able to move 500 lbs , no hand trucks aren't safe for that.

What would you do if your high-school aged son or daughter brought home a drum or two of the stuff, by any means?
I can tell you what I'd do. |

I highly suggest that you do not use a Uhaul Pickup to do the pickup / drop off. You are asking for a lot of trouble if you are seen tranporting 55 gallon drums with it.

Fortunately, my daughter is not that ambitious. |
Forget the size, your trunk will never handle the weight. A 55 gallon drum weighs over 400 lbs filled when with methanol. you will ruin the suspension and probably the transmission.

Don't do it. In addition, no chemical supplier will allow you to do it. It MUST be loaded into a compartment separate from the driver's compartment. Trunks don't count. The bed of a truck is OK. A trailer is OK.
