My first batch of biodiesel was a success. Now, I want to get methanol cheaper than $4/gallon. The best deal I've found is $149 for a 55 gallon drum, but its 70 miles from me. Renting a UHaul pickup is too expensive ($.59/mile + $20), and the Benz is the largest car avaliable. Will a full drum fit into my trunk?

sorry jet lag.... A 55 gal. drum of methanol weighs 420 lbs.:(

Are you including the weight of the drum and all the Federal warning labels?

Why is +/- 400lbs being portrayed as the equivalent of a few large pieces of farm equipment... a few elephants... in the trunk?

Maybe the fact that it's all over the very back of the car in the trunk changes things a lot... but I can still see stuff like luggage, new weight sets and stuff people buy... you know, there's circumstances where maybe 100-200 lbs of stuff COULD be hauled around as common practice in a trunk...

As far as the transmission, etc goes, isn't it just the same as putting 2 200lb people in your back seat and taking off? I mean... that wouldn't even have an eyebrow raised...

Maybe the positioning of the stuff over the wheels does make a difference... but I can't believe it's that dramatic. Maybe it is.

Risk of fire seems more probable than risk of suspension damage, at least to me.
