I got the TDI!

Today I finally committed to a Jetta TDI...I need another car, and as much as I like the E300 I am longing for a stick (and 50mpg goodness)..this deal was just too good to pass up. Don't we all know how that goes .

The car is a 2004 Jetta GLS, fully loaded (leather, htd seats, upgrade sound, etc), 80 000 miles, and has the 5spd stick and 1.9L TDI with Pümpe-Deuse injection.

Here's the fleabay link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330085263583&ssPageName=ADME:B:EF:US:11

I'm not sure yet how long it will take to ship from Florida to California, but I am awaiting it eagerly! We'll have to see what kind of mods I can do to it....I'm thinking full GLI body kit, exhaust, and 18" wheels...my one gripe is that it doesn't have tinted windows, but with that kind of deal--who cares!

Take a look, and let me know what you guys think!

Looks pretty decent.

I would have gone for the golf though. Just personal preference.

My MBs are more reliable than my TDI.

The only thing the TDI has going for it over my MBs is its peppy.

I think the 2005.5 Jetta GLI body kit, wheels, and interiors look downright sexy. I'd definitely mod it into a TDI 2005.5 GLI "Clone". check out the VWVortex forums for ideas if you havent already.

Congrat Bio- I am the opposite of you I guess with the TDI first and then the benz, just got a 96 E300. I have a 98 TDI Jetta and it has by far been the best car that I have owned. I got it at 40k and now I have 160K. I have had only minor problems with it, always been able to fix it myself. Many people debate the mpg claims of the TDI's, espically in consumer reports and the like but I see 48-49 mpg most of the time with mainly freeway driving at 80mph. When I mix city/hwy it drops to 45-46. I did post a couple of 42's but its hard to complain.
comfort level was what drove me to the E300, and so far I love it. I am sure you already have found TDIclub.com, great site. There is great debate regarding the PD TDI on that site but it seems to stem from running the correct oil per VW specs. Enjoy and congrats
I also would recommed the buying the VAG-COM software for your vw, it has saved me many $$.

I loved my TDI. Only sold it because my son and I needed more room and 4WD for our hunting excursions.

The mods you propose will cost you several mpg, if that matters to you.

Congrats, I have almost the same car, just a different color and the GL configuration. I also have a W210 MB. These two are certainly a good pair of cars to have! However don't expect 50 mpg in a PD TDI unless you drive 50-60 mph on a highway all the time. I get around 40 mpg in a mix of "normal" city/highway driving.

Question...

Why not do a fly and drive? Then you could learn about the car on the ride back, or is it that much cheaper to ship cross country?

I have several reasons...
  1. It is indeed cheaper to ship it here.
  2. I don't need it right away.
  3. I don't have four free days to spend driving until Easter, by which time it will be here anyway.
I just got all the shipping organized; it should be here in about 3 weeks.
I did have a positive experience flying out to Houston a few years ago to pick up my E300 (also bought on ebay)....we had a great time making our way back to Sac and learned A LOT about that car!!

The seller arranged shipping...he has contacts. The shipper has to make a trip up to Boston first (the car's in Florida), but it's worth the low price it's gonna cost to ship it all the way across the country. The seller of my TDI is very friendly, has made his money, is now retired and just flips cars on ebay. He says this TDI is probably the nicest Jetta he's ever seen for the miles.

The seller of my E300 was also extremely friendly, his name was Glenn Ivey I believe...he picked up my family and I at the airport and drove us 45 minutes to the car, took us for a test drive, and made sure everything was good. He had been a Porsche dealer in the area and started up a business selling cars online, and I happened to find the great E300 he was selling.
