300CD pics for Truknik...

In reply to Mr. Trukniks post about the 300CDs notorious hood hinge rust spots, I decided to clean out what was lurking underneath the L&R hood springs on my new '82 CD baby... I took a few before & after pictures, and used my big hands; a wire brush; a coat hanger & a garden hose, and got out a bunch pine needles, alot of good 'ol SC mud; a few leaves; a few pieces of rubber & a nice mini size wrench.

The drain holes were definetly clogged up & the good news as you hopefully can see from the pictures ...is there was only a little bit of surface rust and NO rust holes & no water leaked into the passenger compartment.....And now my hood drain will stay cleaned out for another 25 years !!!

Well I am new at photobucket so hopefully you see the pic's at this link....?

There is also a shot of the engine bay & the best IP ever built in a passenger car..

Hey, Nice job on the clean-out. That, is the spot they typically rust/rot out. I don't know much about regular D's, but CD's aparently are famous for it. Looks good, and thanks a lot for thinking of me...

No. Thank you.

ANy CD tips you have are welcome anytime. Maybe you know what MB color my cd is. It is like an off white, with almost a tint of baby blue.

The paint is weathered, but I tried some McGuires (sp) scratch remover on part of the roof & it really helped to remove oxidation.

I can see that the paint is pretty good & I may get used to having the only 300CD in this color this side of the Reine....

Wish I could help with the paint code, but will have to check it out for you, and get back to you tomorrow. A friend of mine at the local MBZ dealership has a d, of same year as yours, in that color. I'll let you know what it is tomorrow, if you haven't found out by then, from someone else. You can also go to paintscratch.com or something like that, and find out through their system.

One of the other "cool" things I found is when iI removed a real old "Support
your South Carolina State Trooper" sticker from the rear trunk next to the license plate area I found it was covering a bullet hole.

Not really cool, but different.

I think it's pretty cool, and I doubt I would get it fixed. I think I would leave it so all can see it. Just for a little while of course. Until the novelty wears off, I guess.

hey, a real bullet hole is better than those stickers!
you could always get a sticker of a bullet hole and put it over your bullet hole?
the paint code should be the only Number with a letter in front of it on the radiator support plate.
what I do with photobucket is. on the PB site, right click (control click on a mac) on the url link they give you, under the picture you want to post, then select copy. go to the reply window on here, and click the yellow box to post a picture, delete the HTTP:\\ that is in the window, and paste the text from the photobucket link that you got under the pic from the URL spot.
this way the pics can be as big as you want, and you can post as many as you want!

yeah, instead of clicking on the yellow pic insert button here, just click on the img link below your picture, it should copy into your clipboard, then here where you type, paste the info in the text box, and it will post the picture, click the preview post button to make sure it worked.

What's your battery tray look like. Mine was kinda like swiss cheese. Painted some rust converter crap on it a long time ago but I have forgotten to check it out regularly.

Battery trays, never faired very well on these cars. Even my nicest example has some kind of crap on it somewhere. On the worst car though, it's pretty well rotted out. Can still get them though, and fairly cheap.
