Don't have a fit 'cause the URL contains the word "gas" -- diesel is represented too!

I pay about $2.60 a gallon. The day I complain about the price of fuel is the day I am prepared to walk 24 miles in order to save two dollars and sixty cents.

It's $2.999 for straight diesel at the corner in 92122 San Diego, Cali. I just called RTC Fuels, and a gallon of B99 is $3.499

Anyways, if I had to fill up (16US gallons) at $6.79 that'd be just about 50% of my weekly income as a student. What percent of yours is it to fill your car? I have options, if diesel goes over $3.05 a gallon I will be buying soybean oil from the store. 4.6 gallons at a time. Works out to about $3.01 a gallon.
Agh....

I didnt take That into consideration! --Doh

Average take-home wages and the cost of living differences between us didnt occur to me initially. BUT around 50% of the cost at the pump is Tax here in the U.K.

I noticed prices creeping up slightly again like it does every year at this time.....

First, you have 48.85 Pence (around $1.00) per Litre Road-Fuel-Duty, then on top of that, you have VAT, Value-Added-Tax on both the fuel cost And the Duty combined.....

Yup, We pay Tax On the Duty as well!--BIG con or what!--Tax on Tax!-Typical British Beurocracy

Out of curiosity, What % of the pump price in the U.S. of A. is Tax, Not just the 'purchase-tax' which I guess is like our VAT, but any 'Duty' or Govt levy on the fuel there??

Guess we Must pay for Jeremy Clarkson's embarressment to the U.K is some way or other...!

Personally, Im currently working as the Technical Manager at a local Cooperative, where I make BioDiesel fuel from recovered/waste cooking-oils, and as part of my weekly pay, I can have up to 75 litres of 'free' fuel

If however I was to fill up completely the 280E from empty it would cost me around a third of my weekly wage currently....

BUT I can't run the 'Flying Bannana' on BioDiesel...YET!--Looking at maybe modding it for E85 'BioEthanol' if I ever get the time, after getting its rear chassis welded and road-worthy!

--Brill today taking the 280E for a 'road-worthy' test (MOT) I took the long-way round to a test-station some 30 miles away, I didnt expect it to pass, but had great fun driving there and back all the same, and was very impressed just how well a 32 year old M.B. can go

The Federal tax on fuel is a straight 18.4 cents/gallon, so the percent will vary based on the price of a gallon. The taxes levied by the states varies -- see this table (lists both gasoline and diesel by state, with additional explanations of the "whys" and "wherefores"). All of the states have a straight cents/gallon tax, and some tack on an additional percentage. The state I live in, Georgia, has one of the lower tax rates on fuel, and all of the state taxes go directly into a transportation fund; for some other states (many of which have the highest tax rates), the taxes go into the state's "general fund" and thus don't necessarily to back into supporting transportation. Besides the climate effects, this is one of the reasons that Georgia has some of the highest-quality roads in the country.
