How do I remove the console switches

1- The search feature used to pull up searches relevant to what I would type in. So now I type in " Clean sunroof switch" and the first thread is " Should I buy this car?" WTF is with the search feature???

2- I have no power in the sunroof of the 300CD I just picked up & want to try fixing it myself before I give it in to my indy.

1st stop I pry off the wood holding the 4 center switches, but it doesn't come all the way off. Only the bottom. How can I get the whole piece off so I can get at the sr switch?

Thanks!
AA (pardon the WTF.)

the search found the words you were looking for somewhere in the thread. the switch might have been mentioned to be bad in the car in question. past that i am of no help.

Help Mr. WIZARD !!!!

Thanks Mr. Oblivious.....oh Mr. Obvious.....(sp)

If I wanted to ask how to use the search feature I would have asked how.

I read through all relevant threads and there wasn't an answer to this.

But thanks for .........living in Colorado.

Hey Austin, use a SMALL flatblade screwdriver and GENTLY pry the top part of the switch housing out. They just clip into place. I don't remember how much cable slack there is. Also check for voltage at the sunroof motor and fuse. Good luck.

You mean pry the switch and not the wood panel that houses the switch?

I've done this before. THe black "clips" that are on the switch which i s flush against the wood trim. Take the screwdriver and gently pry the switch forwards to get it out. You don't need to remove the wood panel. When you get the switch out, take the flat blade and pop the actual toggle portion of the switch out. This will revile the inner working of the switch. Then just clean it up from their. I usually end up using a soft grit sand paper on the contact strips to clean them up.

switch

I have tried just prying out the switches, but half the time it damages the wood. I suggest you pull the CCU (two screws) and then reach up behind the switch and push it out. If your sunroof is doing nothing I doubt your problem is the switch though.

If you don't want to touch the wood, pull the glove box and go in from the rear. Just tried this method as I had the glove box out doing some research on the seat back lock situation.
