Vaseline my intake gasket?

Guys, since I have no doubt there will be another intake R&R in teh distant future, I was going to high tack the gasket to the heads, and use a thin film of Vaseline on the intake side to facilitate future manifold R&R w/o damaging the gasket. OK? Or yet another "racers" trick I shouldnt use on teh MBz? TIA!

if you are going to glue the gasket to something, glue it to the manifold... think about how hard it will be in the future to remove the gasket on the head.

I've never tried Vasoline on gaskets, but have used grease on many paper gaskets over the years.

I used Vasoline on my intake manifold gasket last time I changed it. The purpose was to stick the gasket in-place will I wiggled the manifold in the correct position and threaded all the bolts.

Worked great and is probably long gone by now. Don't use adhesive/silicone though, you don't need it!

Roger that Justin. No water here, just air. Dry would be fine, I'm sure and the stock install ( I assume ) was.

John, I would typically glue it to the head using Indianhead-type shellac, since that is the component that is NOT being moved. Have to goop up my old Chevy one good ( original 3X2 manifold is quite porous).

I'll keep the hitack on the shelf and just use a wee bit o' grease to hold it in place, taking justin's lead. Intake removal is key to any engine maintenance on this 606. Still might indianhead it in place.
