diesel purge questions, please please help!

I'll do my best not to sound like a newbie!

my car is a 1991 350sdl turbo diesel.

I went to AutoZone today to get diesel purge but they didn't have any. They did have this stuff called "SeaFoam". Has anyone used this in place of lubro moly diesel purge? I would think it is the same stuff but it could be completely different... on can it says its injector cleaner, carburetor cleaner, carbon cleaner, fuel stailitzer, etc.

I also got 4 feet of 5/16" hose. I asked for fuel hose but they only had "transmission oil cooler hose" by goodyear. I got this because it looks identical to fuel hose. can someone PLEASE PLEASE tell me if it is not the same or if i cannot use this hose? And why does it look so thick. Besdies what is the need for these extra hoses.. why can't you just disconnect the hoses already in place and put them into the bottle with the diesel purge in it.

When I do the purge, how do I prevent an air problem in the fuel system? I want to replace both fuel filters after the purge. Well actually, for the inline fuel filter, I will use it during the purge to get it "primed" . But after, when I change the spin on fuel filter, what to I do to prevent air from getting into the system. btw my car for some reason has no pump to get the air out in case it does get in..

Really need advice from people whove done "The Purge" before or from experts, thanks in advance!

Seafoam will not work in place of diesel purge.

The lines you got are so much bigger because transmission line is about 60psi where the fuel system is about 15psi.

simple to do, just fill the spin on filter with diesel before you install it.
sea foam is not the same stuff, it is about 1/2 concentration. marvel mystery oil is closer... you can order the right stuff from interauto I believe... not sure, I can check my recipts tonight.... you will need the long hose, because there is NO WAY to get the stock hoses to reach a place to put the bottle. 3' lengths would be better...

I am not familiar with the '91's, so I can only be of so much help. The extra hose is just to give you room to route to the purge "tank". Any fuel, or trans line, of correct Inside Dimension, thick hose, ok that's OD. I would think should work. Use clamps too. It will have fuel in the lines for a short period of time. SeaFoam will work, I do use the specific stuff tho. A couple of cans. My "system" is in the garage, ready to hook up, did it on the SD a couple of weeks ago. You will not have any problems with air in the lines when hooking up, at least I didn't. I use both filters when purging, replace both afterward. I fill the spin on filter with diesel, kero, more injector cleaner what have you. Don't know if yours can be, i.e. if you have to invert to install. I do have a primer, IIRC, normal for yours not to have. Unsure if you merely need to crank, wouldn't surprise me. I have a CD-ROM on the SD's yours should be in there, mine is an '83, so have never checked.

Tygman,

Check out the tutorial at the diesel giant web page. I think it will show you all need to know. I am not sure what tyle of transmission hose you got that was 5/16". Be sure it's 5/16" inside diameter not outside. Here's the link http://dieselgiant.com/injectorcleaning.htm

Here's what you do if it's so cold your diesel fuel gels. Smear some on some toast and stay inside until it warms up outside.

Products that are not recommended by your car manufacturer or automotive engineering standards organizations are a waste of your time and money.

Filling the main filter with Diesel Purge will not give the same results as running it straight. Within seconds of starting, 75% of that DP will end up in the fuel tank, as the IP circulates much more fuel than is used by the engine.

I was referring to after the purge, to fill spin on filter to reduce chance of introducing air in system. When starting. Sorry for the confusion.
