Sunroof headliner removal how?

I'm trying to disassemble the sliding roof on my 1984 300D to clean the rails and can't get past the first step in the FSM. What exactly is it meant by "open sunroof 3/4 and unclip healdiner removing from top"? There aren't any clips that I can see and I'm pretty certain i can't just pull out the headliner without removing something from the rear of the sunroof (which is now buried in the roof from opening 3/4 way as instructed by the FSM). Am I supposed to remove the sunroof headliner or something else?

On a side note, do these cars have 2 or 4 drains for the sunroof? Both of my 123s had a swamp in the rear footwells after a large rainstorm and I'm wondeirng if it is from the sunroof.

Help much appreciated!

The headliner is held to the sunroof by 6 clips at the front. Nothing at the back, it just slides with the sunroof.
I may be wrong on the number if clips, but they're at the front.
You just pop it off (they can be stubborn) and slide it forward and out.
The reason they want it open is because it is easier to take off the plastic sunshade and take the headliner out from the top than to take the headliner out inside and hit the windshield.
Just pop it out and pull it out the top of the car. Comes out pretty easily, although after you put it down, make sure you don't bend it (I did - had it in the trunk for about a year and some stuff got under it and on top of it - was a pain to get it right)

6 clips, you say? Both of my W123 cars are missing all of them then. I could only find 3 rubber guides attached above the edge of the headliner. I'll have to try pulling harder on the headliner and see if it moves. We are talking about the taught piece of fabric on the underside of the sliding roof, right?

Yes--check the shop CD

I have done this also, see the shop CD. Of some interset to you might be I know where you can get fabric paint that matches the sunroof color exactly and when you use it, it looks 100% like you have a brand new headliner--give me a few hours so I can remember--used it on my interior

The clips are attached to the headliner (the fabric cover), not the actual sunroof. There are 6-8 (a good number). You just have to pop them off.

There is a strip where the rubber pieces attach, then there's a strip where all the clips clip in, then there's the rest of the sunroof. The clips are pretty well hidden when the headliner is on.
