Injection Pump Removal
Anybody know how to get the injection pump out of a 1985 300D?
I have taken the oil filter housing off. I have also gotton all the bolts and nuts off of the IP except the one between the IP and the engine. Is there a secret tool or tip to get to this nut??? Any other tools, tips I will need to have or know about? Thanks for any help. |
I have not done it in a while but I think once you disconnect all the linkage and hoses and lines to the pump, you disconnect the 3 nuts on the front, and bracket on the rear, and just pop it out. I can post later on a picture of a pump out of the car if you want.

Special tool (homemade)
I made a special tool to get to the IP retainer fastener.
I think it is a 13mm size, and what I did was get a combination wrench and heat the shank with a torch, then bend it 90 degrees. Bend on a plane that keeps the box and open ends parallel to each other. Bent about a third of the way down. You can tediously remove that last fastener with this tool. Jim |
I talked with the Injection Pump rebuild shop and they gave me some pointers as to best methods of getting to the nut between the block and the IP.
He said to use a 1/4" drive with several extensions and a wobble head. Use tape to hold it up write and I should be able to guide the socket onto the nut with a screwdriver or magnet. I am going to try this today and will let you know how it goes. Thanks |
