1983 300cd
I have an '83 300CD that has no bottom end power. When the accelorator is depressed to the floor, it just crawls until it gets to 40MPH. The shifts appear to be too hard. I have replaced all of the filters and all of the injectors. The valves have been adjusted. WHAT NEXT???

Answer
That sounds like a failed turbo.
Please call me.

Check your ALDA lines to and from the banjo bolt and turboswitch over valve as well. Also check to make sure the turbo waste gate is not stuck open.
Check the turbo also for free spinning, lateral play, etc.

Since it takes so little time and effort. Have someone press the go pedal. Check and make sure the pump linkage has advanced the injection pump lever to it's stop.
These cars are old and simple things do wear out or fail. Also if you are not blowing black smoke with the pedal floored under load and linkage has checked out. Make sure you are getting enough fuel by running on a bottle or cleaning out the tank filter. Perhaps its easier for you just to disconect the fuel line under the tank and check for good gravity fuel flow. The above mentioned items are just good to check out anyways. Can save a lot of effort and then you know they are okay before moving on. I have purchased cars with run problems the previous owners have sometimes suffered for years. Usually in less than an hour the problem was located. In fact I almost count on usually finding something fairly simple on new aquisitions. Many times it's the reason they are sold. One of them will really bite me someday though. Last edited by barry123400; 05-30-2007 at 01:26 PM. |

Sounds like ALDA to me. Remove it, and be done with it. Do a search on this forum to find out how.
