Mobil 1 turbodiesel 0W40

I see this oil listed as an approved oil. Has anyone ever seen it? I have not. I generally use Mobil 1 turbodiesel/truck 5W40 or the European formula 0W40 in my E300D.

BTW, speaking of oil, NAPA has Mobil 1 on sale for $5.89 per quart through the end of this month.

Are you certain that such an oil exists? I don't see it on the Mobil 1 site. Mobil 1 Advanced Full Synthetic Motor Oil

That's what I wonder too. I see it listed here in the 229.5 grouping:

MB 229.5 - Multigrade engine oils (Specification 229.5) - Mercedes-Benz Specifications for Operating Fluids

M1 European Blend 0W/40 was the factory fill. Mobil's a pain, they continually change their names for marketing purposes.

The MB spec on the label and viscosity is the most important factor.

Good to know! The 190E is coming up for a oil change in another 1k miles. I used Mobile 1 0w40 last time around. It was 8/qt!

My father has used that oil in his 1.8T Passat since 40,000 miles (it's at 230k now). I use M1 5w40 in my 99.5 TDI and SDL.

I used 0W40 in the 1996 E300D a couple of years ago but went back to 5W40 for no really good reasons and now (since Mobil switched to a group 3 base and raised their prices) don't buy Mobil any more. 0W40 is approved by Mercedes, especially for newer diesels, but 5W40 is fine for our old clunkers.

When I ran the 0w40 in my 99.5 TDI the engine always sounded like it was cold. I'm probably being overly picky, but that was the first and last time I used that oil in that car. I know the analysis numbers from other people's cars always looked nice... but the 5w40 costs about the same so I've just stuck with it

I have seen Mobil 1 0w40 AND Mobil 1 Turbodiesel 5w40 but never anything branded Turbodiesel 0w40. I'm pretty certain the 0w40 does have a diesel rating. I'll have to check as this is what is used in my gasser 210s.

I came across this stuff at the parts store today:

Is this what we were talking about originally?

No. The 0-40 oil is labeled as European Car Formula.
