Valve Cover Blowby??
I was tracking down a bad rattle in my 82 300sd and figured out it was the air cleaner. I removed the hose that goes from the top of the valve cover to the top of the air cleaner and noticed it was putting out a lot of what seemed like smoke. Is this normal or am I about to have a major problem? Thanks.

Blowby is normal even for a new diesel engine. An excessive quantity indicates ring wear.
