in 82 they made the turbo standard equipment.
they also changed the a/c controls so the buttons are horizontal not vertical (better system) otherwise pretty much the same as before. I think the MB Tex is also different.

Heres what I know:

First year of the turbo in a sedan. 81 wagons were turbo's.

Not related to VO, but the 82's also have shag carpeting instead of the smooth carpeting of later cars. Its more expensive to buy the new carpeting, if you are redoing you interior. The old stuff cleans up so well.

82's have the silver rack damper screw, which should be updated to the gold post 83 one if theres too much engine shake.

In 1984 the IP was updated so you could use the RIV tool to check IP timing. On 1983 and prior its the drip method. Not a big deal.

The MB tex in my car is flatter and slightly different than the later more plush tex stuffing. Minor, minor. I have it mixed and matched in mine and you can barely tell.

Fuel filter housing was updated during 1982. Don't know what the advantage of the new one is, or what the problem with the old one was.

Those are the major differences I know of on my 82 thus far. None of them affect the decision to VO or not.

Hope this helps,
dd

My carpet is original, and it's the smooth loop style, but my car was built in Oct' 81. I wonder if the shag type was a mid year change...

Fenders

Another change I am aware of is that sometime in the 82 model year they went from the bonded (epoxy) type glued on front fenders. I think it is a real pain to change a front fender with that type of attachment.

If you insist on using veggie oil, don't abuse the engine, get a two tank setup and don't start it on cold veggie oil.
