Unhappy I need some insight on my transmision problems i dont know what to do anymore HELP!!!

So i have a 81' 300SD which i recently replaced the transmision in. I had removed the old one due to the fact that it wouldn't shift into 4th gear and would only drive 45mph. After the install of the new transmision ( i didnt remove the torque converter) i backed the car up a hill about 200ft and went to shift into drive and had no power none of the gears work so i dropped the pan and replaced the filter which had alot of small metal shavings in it, so did the transmision fluid.

Im trying to figure out what I should do next, i have a feeling that the torque conerter went out due to the fact that i drove the car to Los Angeles and back and when i got back kept driving it and then finally discoverd that the transmision fluid was burnt pitch black...... any ideas if any of what i wrote makes sense yes i know i beat my poor mercedes.

Sounds to me like you need another tranny, along with torque converter. Uh, you might want to change fluid and filter on this one........

Angry

so i did some research and found this information which sounds exactly whats going on with my car

Stator clutch breakage: A very abrupt application of power can cause shock loading to the stator clutch, resulting in breakage. When this occurs, the stator will freely counter-rotate the pump and almost no power transmission will take place. In an automobile, the effect is similar to a severe case of transmission slippage and the vehicle is all but incapable of moving under its own power.

Sorry to hear that

But I also think if you just bought that transmission, you should see if you can exchange it. It sure is a lot of work for nothing. Probably was bad, no matter what you did, but hey, a filter kit, (or even a good cleanup of the old, plus new fluid, should surely go into any trans. I would dump the old fluid and clean/change the filter before I installed the next one. Any time you see big metallic specks, you know your heading for trouble.

probably a very good idea to clean/flush the trans cooler several times as the metal fragments may be hiding in there just waiting to get to your next trans, an external inline filter wont hurt either.I dont know just where i saw them listed but i believe it was one of the online trans kit vendors.
