What is this vacuum part?
Awhile ago, in the process of changing out a part on my old 79 240D, a bumped the brown vacuum line for the ignition shutoff. The lines are fine, but a plastic nipple broke off and now the car won't shut down unless I make suction on the end of the vacuum line. Here is an attached pic, where could I find the white "nipple" piece that fits inbetween? Anybody have a part number or autozone substitution?
I'd like to turn the car off WITHOUT giving it a BJ |

1: Replace the "Y" with another one. 2: Remove the "Y", being careful not break off any of the two remaining lines. Using a pliers, gently "crush" the broken piece of line and remove it from the "Y". Reconnect, and you are finished! Jim

I think that brown lie goes through the firewall to the AC system inside your car. White nipple thing - Maybe a check valve? Shove the pointed end of a golf tee into the three way splitter that is missing the vac line (yellow circle in pic) and your car should shut off just fine.

Yeah, I just tried the golf tee idea in both lines, and each seperately. No go. It's not that there is a leak, it's that a vacuum isn't being created on the ignition vacuum system.
I have to suck on the brown line to CAUSE a vacuum in the ignition line. Any body else know what part it is? |

The brown line -- on a 300tdt -- is the vacuum line that enables engine shutoff with the key. The green line is cruise control vacuum. The yellow line is door locks vacuum. You may want to replace the vacuum modulator on your ignition switch. It's a bit of a PITA if you don't drop the steering column but can be done thru the instrument cluster opening. Taking the steering wheel off makes it easier. Despite the work involved it's worth it unless you're accustomed to suck-starting Harleys.
