Do you need the size and/or power of the 300SD for some reason? If not I would take a look at the 240D and see what you think. I would also be very careful of rust.
Not really. Its just I like to drive stuff like I stole it and love bigger engines.
Called the dealer and they said he was having it sent to his shop to see if his mechanic could get it running. Im sure if he gets it running again, he wont back down much from his asking price.

Might go and take a look at the 240D this weekend.

My uncle used to have a 300SD til about a year ago when he sold it. Also had a 300CD. Both in great shape. Only problem was the rear right carpet in the SD was messed up from when a can of diesel for his mower spilled over.

Too bad he sold em to make room for his new MB...

Not enough info on the 240 to make a comment on. It's a slug, especially if it has an auto tranny. I you like a lot power, I think you'll be disappointed. Rugged tho,

In reality, I just want a diesel MB

Oh, called the owner today and talked to him for a few minutes

======1983 Mercedes Benz Diesel 240D 4 door good runabout car======

Called the owner today and he said it has about 240K miles on it. Its white on white and the rust is pretty much external and not so much on the floor or trunk pans

He said that his wife just got a diesel Jetta so they have no use for it.
He told me hes owned it for about 4 years now and said that there were no major repairs other than regular maintenance like oil changes
Said it usually starts pretty easy but sometimes as an extra measure hed plug it in if the weather was gonna be sub zero

The last time I visited a dealer to see a non-running MB (Dean Team in Kirkwood, btw), they were sending it to a M-B shop to fix some leaks. They wanted about $15K for the car, and I was quite interested. I gave them my phone number and they assured me that they would call me when it was drivable.

I didn't hear from them for a few days, and when I called them about it, they told me that they already sold it to someone else.

I imagine that they figured that since I saw it spewing diesel, that I wouldn't pay an acceptable price. Instead, they're off my list of people with whom I will deal. In fact, I bought a brand-new Jetta TDI from a competitor and didn't even check their price. I didn't care.
