anyone know how to turn on ac on a 300d euro with manual controls?

I'm looking to buy it and have no clue how to turn on the ac. the car runs beautiful.
anyone know how to do that? just turn the knobs to 'cold'?

Pull the fan swich like you do the headlight switch to turn on the fog lights. Unless there's a temp control wheel. Then put it in the blue zone.

nope. then the knob just falls off. even using a plier on the remainder doesn't do anything. other than busting the little bulp of course.
car has no temp control wheel.
German engineering? how do you turn on the ac???????????????????????????
it has to be possible. there is a compressor and all.

If the knob does not pull out then there must be a blue knob or wheel, usually with the top row of buttons.

This is one example. The yellow circle is the fan knob. It has to be turned on to one of the speeds. And the dial that is red is for the temp. It needs to be turned to coldest setting. Some have dials, some may have a knob you turn, like a 240.

Here is a better example

Glad I save pics. And ain't that snot green interior cool!!!

ok so just turning that to the coldest setiing turns on the ac?? what if you want cool air from outside then? how odd. I guess I'll try that. there's a little 'click' when going to the coldest setting, right?

thanks for the help!

If you want cool outside air, you turn on the fan, and you turn that dial or knob to the warmest setting. You will still just get outside air as long as the 2 heat knobs are set to their coolest setting.

hm. seems like good german logic there. anyway, as expected, nothing works as it should. (friends warned me about MB' s climate control systems being somewhat crap)
I'll pass on this one.
Thanks anyway! I'll stick to my BMW till I find a benz with working interior controls.

You're kidding right. THAT is the type of AC controls we all wish we had! It is the Automatic Climate Control that gives problems.
If compressor doesn't come on, some more likely is wrong within the AC system, not the controls........

^^^^That sounds like the "Heimlich maneuver" for the car (sorry)

The 300D euro (W123) is a great ride, so long as it isn't rusty, it's one of the best examples of those cars around - many manual controls (often sunroof, air, windows) that simplify ownership, and surprisingly nimble for a NA Mercedes diesel.

Very covetable, and long lasting. Would be nice if you can score a good one.

well, ok maybe I should give it a shot then. all windows are manual, the sunroof opens electrically but doesn't shut electrically... the compressor doesn't come on, even if you add freon. the fan in front doesn't come on even when the car reaches 100 degrees. so, really, it's just another junk old benz that needs to be punished by force- feeding it WVO hehehehhe Yeah! Punish the old ugly benz!
Cherish the beautiful BMW coupe!

no offence though. I bet there's good ones too that don't deserve the intended abuse.
this one is from the south by the way. no rust.

very true indeed. yet I did some research and found that this euro 300D should be the least crap mercedes ever made, hence my interest.
friends of mine have benzes and really like them, yet they are always broken and need fixing all the time. even the newer ones. my friends talk about 'blowby' a lot too. My honda and my BMW never break. and they're 10+ years old too. also, they are faster, use less fuel, and look better. so yeah, I'd rather have a star in my windshield than a star on my hood.
still, I do wanna abuse and punish a benz with the oil from my friend's restaurant. it seems like a fun thing to do.
really, no offence. they're just cars. we're not talking about Porsche here.

hey guys, this guy is fun. he has the right attitude IMO. abuse those benzes!!!

just buy that car and abuse it to the max. That's what I was planning to do with my euro 300d anyway. I didn't check the ac stuff yet, since I have no title so I don't wanna spend a dime on the car...

but really, you need to appreciate this euro 300d too though. for it's time it's a pretty tough little car that lasts forever. I bet you will start liking it more than at least your honda!
