I just spent my 4th of July replacing my water pump on my 82 300SD Turbodiesel and once I had it all done and filled up, I started it up and its sounds twice as loud. Could that short time in overheating land really have caused this thing to spin a rode bearing? That what it sounds like when I listen to the motor idling. Its only got 176,000 actual miles. I thought these things were unbreakable. Ive only owned the car for a few months and loved the way it ran and sounded. I am really depressed now, do I have to get a total engine rebuild?
Can they pull the pan and just replace the bearing (if thats what it is) I was reading some of these threads that say a bad injector can sound like a knock? Could this overheat I had trigger the injector failure? Im lost.... |

Make sure the proximity switch is not touching the "pin" as it comes around on the front of the crankshaft. While working on the front of my engine one time I accidently hit the bracket that holds the prox switch and it allowed the "pin" to hit causing knocking noise.
