OM617 turbo oil supply gasket?

Does the oil line that supplies the turbo on an OM617 have a gasket where it bolts to the turbo housing?

Also, does anyone have the torque specs for those bolts, and the ones on the oil return line?

yes, and needs gasket sealant..don't know torques and I don't think it's that critical...tight, but not he-man tight should be good enough.

If I remember correctly it is a paper gasket.

It is, I have never used "gasket sealant" infact that sounds like a VERY bad idea.

Gasket sealer, ESPECIALLY silicone goop, should not be used on that gasket. Even a little bit can break off and clog the oil bearings.

Thanks all!

The supply side was missing any sign of a gasket, hence my question. I'll put that on my shopping list.

The return side, once I got it off, showed a paper gasket that had some kind of goop on it.

Are there any places on an OM617.952 that sealant is used?

Where the upper oil pan mates with the block.

well, I can say with the gaskets I got in the kit they did not work without a sealant in there. Normally I wouldn't use any, but after reassembly and inspection there were leaks on the inlet and return lines..hence disassembly and sealant the second time around. Only thing I can figure is crap gaskets in the kit (and yes..I cleaned all the old stuff off).

I replaced earlier this summer. Ended up not using sealer on the paper gasket, just snugged it up. Used 2 long 3/8" extensions to seat the rubber grommet where it goes into the top of the oil pan. Read a write up that said you don't have to pull the turbo but couldn't get that to work. Should have done the manifold gasket since I was so close.

Everything I've ever read about installing paper gaskets, recommends application of a coat of grease to the mating surfaces. That is all I've ever done and it seems to seal just fine. The other contributing factor is even torque on clean, lightly lubed bolts. First, a dose of brake cleaner and then 3-n-1 oil. I know it sounds a little anal retentive but it really only takes a second. If the bolts are mounted upside down, or have a lot of leverage applied, I am a fan of blue thread-locker.

I used a tiny thin little coating of Indian Head gasket shellac on the turbo-side flange of the oil inlet, just to keep the paper gasket in place for assembly. None of the stuff squeezed into the oil supply galley; I have no leaks, turbo runs great and spools properly end of story.
