Is there a problem with mentioning the Schuman Forum?

If so, speak out and say why; don't slink around and delete threads that had legitimate questions like this one:

I guess there must be, I registered again and I think it went through this time using different email and user name.

My offer still stands, for those of you who were not able to read the original post, I will be going to Sweden in a few days and will be hitting up the yards there. If you need something thats not to big send me a PM and I'll see if I can get it for you. Not sure if there will be any w123's there but you never know.

kerry 09-18-2007 09:58 AM

Yes there is. Isn't that boneheaddoctor's forum? It's kind of like talking about the ex with the new wife.

TheDon 09-18-2007 10:10 AM

whats happening now?

No, it's Henry Schuman's forum. BHD manages it.

A while back I went to the mat about the arbitrary blocking of the Schum*n site and got it lifted in the interest of the free flow of MBZ-relevant information. I guess it didn't stick.

Good. The Schum*n admin thought that your g-mail may have sucked their reply into oblivion.

There's no issue mentioning Schuman's site.

The OP asked a question.........unrelated to diesels I note..........he received the answer..........and it seemed appropriate to delete the thread.

Now, if you believe that the thread will have some value to folks seeking information about diesels in the future.........I'll put it back up for you.;)

I don't "slink around". You know me better than that.

Wasn't there an offer to get parts from Sweden in that thread?

Yes, after taking a second look...........I see the offer in a postscript of the original post. Might be valuable for a few more days..........although it's easy to miss............the title gives no assistance.

I tried a while back to register over there. Even with Henry involved, I had to give up. I think their system's automated replies during the registration process get picked off as spam. MB Canada was the same way, only they were a-holes about it. I could probably register by using my work E-Mail address, but that would be in violation of the companies I.T. policies. It simply isn't worth the hassle of settimg up yet another E-Mail address just so I can register on their forum.

Graminal95 09-18-2007 10:56 AM

I'm sorry, next time I'll post it as "Putting a turbo on a 240D" Thats diesel related.

R Leo you were right, Gmail put the message in the spam folder! So I think its all sorted now.

Sorry for the mess, I'll be very specific when it comes to posting stuff from now on.

Mr Carlton, is there a very limit amount of space on the forum for topics that are not totally relevant? (The question was how to get a file that pertained to putting a turbo on a N/A 300 so it was about diesels in a round about way.)

I figured I would get a responce or 2 and then it would in a matter of a day or so move a few pages back, and just be archieved.

In my search for STT info, I have found posts similar to the one that was deleted and has given me a little more info to play with. (where to find certain information in this case the stt file).

R Leo, thanks for the help.

The forum has an unlimited amount of space........effectively.

However, the diesel discussion should be limited to discussions of that engine............if we allow discussions of "How do I post on Schuman's forum" on a daily basis..........this forum turns into a useless pile of trash.

You are a single member who wishes an exception. Compound that by 5,000 and where do you end up?

TX76513 09-18-2007 11:35 AM

That's right ask an axle question over at S's in the Recipes - Eskimo or Inuit Formum and B A M http://schumanautomotive.com/forums/...m_old_lock.gif

TheDon 09-18-2007 11:41 AM

lol... I move misplaced threads a lot...

I found that someone had posted some instruction in German on the Schuman forum but when I tried to get them it said I had to register.

..........you can selectively quote the thread if you wish. The fundamental basis for the thread was to obtain a .pdf file from Schuman's site...........not to solicit information from the members of M-Shop. I chose to allow the thread until that information was received. After that point, the thread was moot...........until you noted the postscript.

..........nuff said?

I like that place over there, they helped me out a lot with some stuff.
I like this place a lot, too.

We're allowed to have more than one friend...lol.

R Leo 09-18-2007 12:14 PM

Even with the Schuman Forum request, the post/thread had relevance to the DD part of the forum. Case in point being that until I read it, I'd never heard of a turbo kit for the 240. Plus, there was an offer to return from Sweden with Mercedes/diesel goodies.

The title reads "Anyone one the Schuman forum". A casual read of the first post indicates the need for info from Schuman's site.

The chances of most folks reading it for relevance to DD is minimal.

However, on the possible chance that someone would read the postscript, I reinstated the thread.

Why are we arguing about it?

Anyone know whats going on with the forum? I keep getting timeout and server not found errors every time I try to go there.

TX76513 11-05-2007 09:19 AM

There was mention about it last week - growing pains using up bandwith allocation.

ForcedInduction 11-05-2007 09:21 AM

That was solved, they changed from a 6GB to a 10GB service.

I have been busy for the last couple of weeks and haven't been on, but tried yesterday and got the same message as you.

JimmyL 11-05-2007 09:29 AM

The bearings are bad on their main power generating squirrel wheel.....;)

{all in fun you OBK guys} :D

TheDon 11-05-2007 11:55 AM

We ate up 6 gigs in a short matter of time with little or no advertising.. with alot of text and few images

ForcedInduction 11-05-2007 03:31 PM

This time it was an issue with the host service taking a cr@p, not bandwidth. Henry is working on moving the forum to a more reliable service.

Here is a secondary gathering place if the Schuman forum ever goes down again. http://oilburnerskartel.smfforfree2.com/index.php

Heh, if people would ask I am sure I could find some hosting.... I am only sitting on about 14gb/s of pipe here at work :)

TX76513 11-05-2007 04:36 PM

The company I work with learned their lesson on backup servers - ours was in New Orleans, but they are smarter now and moved it to Galveston.....lol

dunl 11-06-2007 12:35 AM

I tried to register a few months back....received a reply that my address was "banned". Asked about it, and was told there must be a mistake, use a different one. I did, and still no luck. Was told I should just go to hotmail and create another email address for that site.

I told them where to go after that. If things are so screwed that my two email addresses don't work, and I need to create yet another, just for them, the site is probably not worth it.

ForcedInduction 11-06-2007 12:38 AM

Eh, your loss.

Mentioning it is OK..

Promoting = free advertising = it will get the posts deleted, and the poster banned.

MercedesShop is able to maintain the forum for the free use of all members. This is accomplished via the income generated from the sale of parts from the site's Fastlane parts store. All parts for any Mercedes vehicle can be found by pressing the "Buy Parts" button at the top of any page. If a part is not listed in the on-line catalog, it is generally available by calling or e-mailing Lee or Roy, our parts supply experts.

While peachparts.com encourages members to openly share their technical insight regarding Mercedes-Benz, we ask, as a matter of courtesy, that members refrain from posting links or references to competing Mercedes-Benz parts and supply vendors.
