Info on Mercedes Motorhome

Has anyone seen one of these in the States? It is a 1977 25' Class A Mercedes Benz Motorhome. It has a 4 cyl Diesel Engine with a 4 speed Transmission. Is there any info out there about the engine? (what size?, OHV?, Prechambers?) It looks like a flathead, but I don't think that would be the case. I have done a yahoo search, but nothing on this beast. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Rich

like every other vehicle, dig up the chassis and engine numbers. In the mercedes scheme of things, these guys are listed with their trucks and buses rather than passenger cars.

You're right, there are very, very few in the states. Armed with the right numbers, you can do world-wide searches on ebay that will turn up engine, chassis and owners manuals. Also, you can call the classic center.

For parts, it's easy, just subscribe to the EPC and choose the non-US option.

Indeed! In what other MB can you watch your engine while you drive!
And I'm loving that blue instrument panel, especially that vacuum gauge, but out of interest why is it needed?

I was hoping someone else could answer questions like that. I hope there is an expert somewhere on an M B forum that can help me with info on this vehicle.

Looks like a cool vehicle, not something you see everyday.

If you can find the VIN, you should be able to get the rest of the vehicle data. I was lucky that my truck came with the original data card which has numbers for the motor, chassis, trans, axles, etc etc.

Anyway, I was able to get a manual from http://stores.ebay.com/Schiff-European-Automotive

Also, I have had good luck with parts from http://www.eurotruck-importers.com/, ask for Steve

I had quite a time figuring out an oil filter for my OM314 engine (L508D truck), but I got some good info from http://sct-germany.de/Catalogue/main_eng.html Go to the "Industr" section and select Mercedes, then various engines show up (not sure which one you have)

With paitience and a good internet translator you can get quite a bit from www.ebay.de or google.de

What speed can you get from your vehicle? What wheel & tire size?

Seems like you would know that sooner than looking at a gauge...

You are supposed to check air pressure before taking off from a start up.

I am sure it was in Marks, not Dollars. This vehicle was imported after original sale in Germany.

I found the engine number- OM314 V (or Y, I can't tell) The VIN is 31405310620472. I got a closer look, and it is an overhead valve, cam in block design. The rocker arm cover looks to have the intake manifold cast into it. I need to find out how to set the idle. It does not apear to have an idle screw visable. Thanks in advance for any help......Rich
