Clockwise, this is not Australia!

Will I then need the unobtainium rings?

Don't use unobtanium rings if you have a turbo! You must use turbonium rings, as they are designed to withstand the forces generated by the turbo.

lietuviai 09-22-2007 10:31 PM

Do the rings go in the turbo?

All kidding aside, 3000rpm is 3000rpm no matter the engine.

Awww.... you ruined the whole thread. Thank you very much "Captain Bringdown!":P

Aw, I'm sorry. I thought it said "Diesel" at the top of the page instead of "Open". :P

Ahh, never fear! All you need to do is travel to China first before you use it, then it will work in reverse since its upside down.

I should think the engine that "spins" "faster" at 3000 RPM would be the engine that has the deeper chamber.

The piston needs to be moving that much quicker to get up and back in a single cycle in a taller engine than a short one.

So, it depends on what shape they are :p

You're on the right track ;)
It depends on the exact type of engines we're talking about here. For example my forged stroker 396 spins faster at 3000 rpms than my old 350 because the crank is a wider diameter, thus the pistons are moving faster due to the longer stroke!:idea3:

I'd think an inline motor would have a MUCH shorter stroke, so this is really a question for an engine guru. I've got both a 280CE and 300CD, but I'm not going to do a teardown to measure them for you. Yeah, I suck like that.:D

Well I guess then a steam engine spins faster at 3000 RPM's.

I was told by a very intelligent mechanic that gassers spin faster at 3000 RPM's than diesels.

They tried "spinning" engines in aircraft in the early days. There was a bit of a problem with the gyroscopic effect.

ha ha this topic is great
