Noobs question,"What engine spins faster at 3000 RPM's diesel or gas?"
Please help this noob figure out this perplexing query, which engine spins faster at 3000 RPM's a diesel or a gasser? I was wondering this since diesels are so much slower than gasser so wouldn't the diesel spin slower at 3000 RPM's.
I was told by a very intelligent mechanic that gassers spin faster at 3000 RPM's than diesels. Also I bought an oil cap from the dealer but they gave me the wrong one. Instead of OIL it says 710. I'm upset at the dealer. |
Sounds like the old "which is heavier, a lb. of feathers or a lb. of rocks" bit......;)
You certainly are carpet-bombing the forum lately.......:D |

I can't help you on the oil cap version you recieved, perhaps it was a mis order?
but the mechanic MAY have been thinking that the vehicle would travel slower at 3000RPM's. as most diesel vehicles use gears to attain velocity to take advantage of their low RPM ceiling. |
Depends if the engine is on a conveyor belt or not.

Try using a Metric adjustable wrench while working on your diesel, it will make it spin faster
|
The diesel spins faster....just base it on noise. Diesel - way more noisy at 3k. :D ;)
:D :D :D I think a 300SE gasser actually runs even higher freeway rpms than our diesels....as they have a 3.46 differential. Then again its max rpm is also 2,500 higher. |
I prefer the 710 caps myself.

You guys do realize that someone is going to find this thread on google and think we're all a bunch of idiots?
Then again... ;) |
I had a stangely similar oil cap prob on my Alfa; the cap I got was number 0710, though.

I should think the engine that "spins" "faster" at 3000 RPM would be the engine that has the deeper chamber.
The piston needs to be moving that much quicker to get up and back in a single cycle in a taller engine than a short one. So, it depends on what shape they are :p |
Obviously, the 3000 rpm engine in the car traveling the fastest is spinning faster due to special relativity.
|
My mechanic told me today that my engine is over-square. Does that mean I need the square or rectangular pistons?

Will I then need the unobtainium rings?
