Don't seem to have all 4 gears ( automatic ) kind of slides into next gear when shifting, No kick down when floored. Am I in trouble? JUST bought it off EBAY. Runs ok, definetaly doesn't like hills. Really good shape body and interior wise.

Believe its adjustable, vacuum valve controled. Would seek professional opinion. Ideally it should shift hard never flaring. And feathering the accelerator gives some control over when it shifts.
Or can be linkage, have you tried working it between S and D for manually making the shift into 4th? Thats probly where I'd begin: Wind it out in "S" up to 45-50mph then ease up on the accelerator and slide it into "D" - should go into 4th. The only other question is - are you counting the shifts correctly? Maybe it starts out 2nd unless you head out from dead stop in "L" |

You are correct on the count, it is REALLY fast between 1st and 2nd still slides between 2nd and 3rd, 3rd and 4th. No kick bown between 4th and third. Will seek professional help, oh wait, will have car looked at.
![]() It REALLY doesn't like hills, maybe the alt adjuster isn't up to 5000 ft in 53 miles. Again thanks Gary |

You need to check out your vacuum system
Not putting the right vacuum to the tranny will cause issues My 240's tranny is kinda finicky about kickdown. Sometimes it will get the hint and do it, other times it will just wallow in high gear. I'm just used to manually selecting gears when needed now. Theres also a kickdown switch that should be depressed at full pedal travel. I had to adjust my linkages and the "linkage stop" screw on the IP housing.
