300sdl Window Motor Stuck closed

The motor makes noise a click when the switch is activated, but it seems frozen up... is there a manual way to crank the window down or to unfreeze the regulator?

not that I have found. Pull your door panel and check the wiring connector, they have been known to get loose from vibration.

I only have W123s but have done a lot of window work, fore and aft. You didn't say which is giving you trouble. Could be electrical or mechanical.

If electrical, do the simple stuff first. Pull the panel as mentioned. On a W123 as the panel is freed, you have to reach behind and separate the switch from the plug. Once completed, you can see how the switch mounts into the panel and with a flat blade screwdriver CAREFULLY depress the two spring detents and out it comes.

Look at the pins and the female receptacles. Spray both with electrical contact cleaner (flamable, be careful), wipe with a rag, do the receptacls with a cotton swab. Reassemble just the switch to the receptacle. Check all the wires for being tight, no worn insulation, and try again.

If mechanical, a guide may have worked loose, jamming the window carrier. The rear windows have ajust such a lower carrier.

Worst case, the base metal plate upon which the regulator assembly and motor/gearbox may have been deformed, causing the gears and lifter teeth to bind. Messy, but easy to fix.

Death would be if the motor shaft is shorn or the gear on said shaft loose allowing the shaft to spin freely. Unlikely, remote, but possible.

Good luck.

Thumbs up

Did you check the fuses? Looks are deceptive!

Thanks for the feedback. Yes the fuses are fine. The connection are also.

I can tell that electricity is getting to the motor because I hear noise from the motor, but it seems like the gears are stuck (I can't even pull them down with my hand when engaging the motor)...so I still wonder if there is a way to manually "break" the freeze without pulling the motor etc..

I had mine jam once (and only once ) What I did was rock the window switch back and forth 5-6 times and it freed up. No idea if this would work.
