Trans the same on w123 300D and 240D?

Would an automatic transmission from a 1983 240D be the same as one from a 1983 300D?

I have heard that although they are not the same they will interchange. The two forty tranny is not nearly as strong.

They are not the same. The 83 240 tranny has different vacuum controls for shifting firmness.

The way I understand it is, The trannys from the turbo and N/A w123s are (and look) totally different. So can these "vacuum controls" be easily swapped over, meaning any tranny from a N/A, W123 is basically the same? Oh, excluding the early ones without any vacuum to them.

I think in addition to the vacuum controls the turbo trannies have beefier clutch packs and such.

I have a couple of 240D auto trannys that I've swapped to manuals that I'd sell (or trade something) cheap if theres anybody in the PNW that needs them.
