Exclamation Is it going to burn up?

Hello again,

You guys have provided me with so much help, thanks for everything....here is an easy one, one which reveals my paranoia I suppose.....

I want to BYPASS the heater so I can drive the car while I replace the heater control valve and troubleshoot what appears to be a coolant leak under the dash. Can I:

1. Run a heater hose between the outlets at the engine, allowing coolant to flow continuously from the outlet side to the inlet side, or should I:
2. Temporarily install a shut-off valve before the heater control valve, effectively stopping the flow of fluid altogether?

I don't want to blow anything up and have not been able to find in the Cd downloadable manual anything that states radiator fluid flow is independent of the heater circuit itself. I just want to be reassured I can either stop the flow or bypass it and continue to drive the car while I am working on it since the car is my daily driver.

Thanks in advance for any help with my quest...

Either course of action would be acceptable in my opinion.
