I priced a transmission at the dealer today!

After reading the recent thread about the 617 crate motor pricing, I thought I'd check out the price for a Remanufactured tranny for my 83 300sd. Make sure you're sitting down before you read this! $4007.25 for the transmission. Not installed. And $2120 for the converter. The parts guy said it would have to be ordered from Germany, as there were none on hand at the warehouse in the US.

If you thing that is bad just think what the newer 7 speed transmissions are going to cost when its time to replace.

You remind me of Ackroyd/Martin playing the "scandinavian brothers" and saying "wow, look at that thing!"

Mercedes parts aren't the same as Ford parts.

For every Mercedes made, there are 10-20 Fords made.

Mercedes parts obviously cost more.

Try pricing a new engine.

I'm trying to remember, but I think they wanted $150 or $200 for the double pulley on the alternator when I priced a replacement.

Think you could shoehorn a 7-sp auto into a W123 chassis? That'd be kinda interesting.

Not unless you have a team of MB electrical engineers on hand to make it work.

Is it just me, or is a 7 speed auto a little much for a sedan? It's not like these engines have very narrow power bands. Did they let the F1 guys design their new trannies?

No kidding, if the dollar and Euro were equal....it'd only be $2400!

And back in 2002, it'd have only been like $1800ish!
