1.5 way through axle replacement - help!

Hi everybody,
I have followed the pictoral here to a tee....so far so good.

I have the diff. cover off and the retaining "C" clip off - no sweat.

I unscrewed the bolt from the center of the hub....
but I can't get the old axle off!

I have some play - I can move it into the differential and out a bit, but I can't figure out how to disengage it from the hub.

I have destroyed a socket extention beating on it through the hole in the center of the hub, but it has moved a milimeter or so.

What am I doing wrong?

Make sure the Differential is jacked all the way up to the body. This will relieve the pressure of the axles pushing outward.

I have read that sometimes it is necessary to disconnect the shock absorber so that the wheel hub can be lowered even farther. However, with the differential raised as far as it will go, as DV has said, there should be enough slack to push the end of the axle out of the hub.

thanks y'all.

I did both of those, but the thing that did it was the angle of the socket extention.
Insted of going through the hub, I put the extension over the hub against the lip of the cuff and "lightly" tapped it (meaning I wailed on it). It finally came free and the new one is in!!!

WOO HOO!
