oil level warning

I already added a coolant level warning (in the expansion tank) of my 83 300D turbo. Correct me if I'm wrong but afaik there is no oil level warning in the 616 & 617 W123's. Which model/model years, if any, have oil level warning? What kind of sensor does it use? Can it be fitted to the 616 & 617 engines?
It's something I'd really like to have. Has anyone done anything like it? How about something custom ? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

There is nothing like that on the 61x engines. You would have to use an aftermarket system. You would need something like THIS.

I'd rather have a low pressure warning than a level switch. You can loose oil pressure and damage the engine (Ruptured oil cooler hose for example) before you would notice a low oil level.

Hobbs switch

We had a dump truck with a gas engine when I use to work. It had a
Hobbs Switch that worked off engine pressure. there were two wires I
guess went to the ignition switch, If you lost engine pressure, it would
kill the engine.
Don`t see how this would work on one of our diesels though, since they
use vacuum shut off.
As far as a oil level type thing, I can`t fathom how something like that
would hook up with oil sloshing around on the crank case.
Maybe some type Rube Goldbberg system could be figured out.
Google it.
These engines do have a device called a knocker sensor. when you
hear it knock, your oil level is low.

The 60x engines have a level sensor. This started in the 124 I believe, not sure if the 86-87 SDL has it or not. The 124 has sensors and dash lights for almost anything that could ever get low

Good point about low oil pressure warning. Probably good to have both.
If you have a oil cooler hose that is leaking at the rate of say a drop a second. How much oil pressure drop would you see at 3000 rpm and at idle.

I doubt you'd see any pressure drop from a leak like that, but you'll be losing a lot of oil very quickly!

If its leaking a drop a second I think I'd be looking into replacing those lines ASAP! if they blow you'll have no oil pressure or oil left in about 5-10 seconds! = dead engine. Replace them!

That was a theoretical question. My cooler lines have been replaced. I didn't think there would be much pressure drop at 1 drop/sec. The low oil warning would save the day and the engine with such a leak.
