what is connected to vacuum dashpot

Hi. I bought a new vacuum dashpot. One side connects to a hose that I replaced. The other side connects to a very short piece of hose with a spring around the hose that goes into a white thing that is mounted. Can I replace the hose connecting the dashpot to the white thing? I'm afraid to pull on it because it has that spring on it but the hose is not the right hose and the dashpot easily slips off, so I think I need to replace it with the correct fitting hose. Does any of this make sense? Guess you can tell I'm not a mechanic.

I'm still waiting to embark on my attempt to get the old glow plugs out. It's just been so hot in Miami and I can't spend a lot of time tugging and pulling because the sweat just starts to pull out. I need wipers on my glasses!!!
