Kinda interested in the 190D.. even though its not a "proper" Mercedes it does get pretty good MPG

The gold one is still for sale.. I want to find out more about it.. I kinda want 30 mpg... I hope it is turbo

NADA average value definition: This vehicle would be in good condition overall. It could be an older restoration or a well-maintained original vehicle. Completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. A "20-footer".

Big dents, oxidation, rust, torn leather, certainly noticable at 20 feet, and the car is not completely operable. He's even pricing it closer to high average, which is 5900. NADA doesn't take mileage into consideration either. This guy needs to get real, but it is possible that someone may pay that much. Judging from the nice w123 parked next to it this guy may be attached to his diesels, and we all know how hard it is to let go sometimes.

I have had SDLs and I would not hesitate to buy a 190. They are benzes not a cheap imitation, but they are the entry level benz, so they are smaller and less fancy. Many of the mechanical parts are the same as on the 124 and the 126.

As always, buy the best you can find and afford.

I don't have much experience with diesel guys, but I do sell cars at a new car dealership while I'm in college. The hardest thing to get over is people parting with their trade-ins. Its sad how unrealistic some people's expectations are. I had one guy that thought he could trade up to his 2 year old, 35,000 mile truck for an exact new body style without spending a dollar, because we were having an invoice sale. I've never had anyone more angry at me (difference was about $6,000), and I was going to make $50 bucks on the deal, so I didn't really care.

I'm going to look into both.. I know I can talk the silver one down.. a lot... the gold one.. maybe... I just want/need more info on it.

He's willing to negotiate (I'm not sure how much but don't think he'll consider anything under $4k cash for it) but that would have to be talked out between buyer and seller. I've been trying to help him out with the sale since he's been busy with his music and now him moving two states away for his regular job, but if it doesn't sell right away- no big deal I guess except that it's always nice to have the money if it's needed.

Let me know how the VIN checks out if you decide to check it. We had it ran several years ago and it was clean so it should be fine.

That car isn't too terrible, and having driven one of those little '87 rocket ships, they are fun to drive. If they have a tranny rebuild receipt that is a huge plus. Those go out around 200K with regularity, so it should be good for awhile...

Send links to a good number of completed listing links on ebay to support your offer and run kelly blue book; try to kill his emotional attachment with plain logic. I'm sure $3,000 is more than fair. kbb shows private party in fair condition is 1,000; retail in excellent condition is 3,000. Obviously kelly is off on the value for this one, but it further helps your case. Seems like the brother is on your side.

I think 3k is a fair price.. I just need like $500 more dollars and I will have an offer.. I would also have to sell my 300D off to make room for this one.. any takers?

The fact it has a jack point rusting is very unnerving as well as the other rust. not good.. The seller mentioned it is from NJ and they bought it in naples 7 years ago.. The do seem to care for it. Proof shows they do like diesels as they have two others.

I wonder if I can knock off $500 for the Bush/Cheney bumper sticker?

I always liked um. They still ride like MB's. They just don't handle like crap.
