Damm that's slick. I might have to give that a try. I need to do two axels. I already have enough for four axels. If I use the ones with out the cans. I didn't have audio on, so what type of oil did he use.

Thats slick, so easy even a girl could do it. 99 cents for a funnel, lil soap, elbo grease. Or $300.00 for the tool. decisions, decisions.

Click on the menu bottom of the video, second view from the left shows
a guy putting on one while on the vehicle. lil more effort.

That is awesome. My boots are very cracked, so I am tempted to do that to mine!! Think the MB boots would hold up to that? Or would it be best to use the "Flexx" boots....they can stretch like crazy.

Nice

Picture ain't great, but you can see it. Do you think those are the OE boots he is putting on? Then he still has to put the CV lube inside. I guess that could be done. I am going to have to look for some old axles that haven't cracked open and try that. I am using rebuilt axles, but I don't like the thought of the rebuilder grinding them down to make them usable.

I have a 'spare axel ' in the truck of the car. I might have to try it. Getting grease in there should be easy. Clean out the old with brake cleaner or CV cleaner. I an thinking a shiringe or such. I have a bearing packer from NAPA that has a shiringe to pressure grease into a bearing. I plan to use RedLine CV-2 synthetic grease. Just have to get the oil filler spout of the right size. I'll try some dishwashing soap, thinned a bit with water.

I have done this on my 1981 240d! it works fantastic! what i suggest doing is either buying the "special" boot slipper over thingy, or using a funnel like that. this can ONLY be done with the flexx boot, not the mercedes boots. Flexx only makes two sizes of boots, you then trim them to what you need. and your done! it is extremely simple and it works fantastic. i didnt even have to take off my axel out of my rear end. One thing though. you see how he had a helper come over and help him pull it down? if you do it too slow you will get caught where the boot meets the axle and it will tear easily at that point (thats what i did) so i used a screwdriver to slowly pry it over and it ripped it allitle. so what you need to do is get a helper and push it on fast and make sure everythign is well lubed.

So what size boot is required for the axles on our cars? I would like to attempt this also, before my boots break and I need new axles. Mine are still in perfect shape, not a sound from them. I'll probably order an extra boot or two....just to cover any accidents...

And, for the lube grease, can you get/use the original stuff (oil) from MB? Or do you have to use something else?

I just used cv joint packing grease, i probibally would inject some synthetic oil into the boot after i was done. the passanger size boot will fit.

You said you did it without removing it from the rear end? How? Did you leave it attached to the wheel hub or differential? I'd consider this, but it probably gives better leverage to slip the boot on with it out of the car....

I noticed on diesel giant's site he used the bigger Truck/SUV (astoria 3001) boots rather than the smaller car ones (3000). I bet this helps too. Looked like they fit great on his installation....

I need to figure out if I want to tackle this....or if I should just wait till I have to.....my boots have "looked" like they will fail for 4 years....it could be 4 more...or it could be 4 days. Who knows. The reason I want to do it is that I know the axles are in good shape, and the astoria stuff is cheap enough for it to be worth it. I'd probably also put in a new differential mount and seals....
