Remote oil filter

I have seen a lot of diffrent people talking about a remote oil filter on the 616 and 617 engines. When I put the 616 in my jeep I just took a 3.5"x5"x.5" aluminium plate and drilled the mounting holes and drilled and tapped the oil holes for 1/2 npt and used a standard relocation kit. You need to put a T fitting in the line going back to the engine for the oil pressure sender. I use an FL1A Motorcraft filter. It has an anti drainback valve in it so it dosent matter where you mount it. The extra hole in the block is just to drain the MB filter and you can just ignore it. This seems like the easiest adn cheapest way to do away with the crazy MB filter. I also looked at a remote filter from a 4x4 S10 it will route the oil through a cooler also but I didnt like the small filter. Hope this may help someone.

They need to have a thermostatically controlled oil cooler. There are plenty of aftermarket oil thermostats, THIS and THIS for example.

I came across this on ebay the other day and will use one on the truck I'm building now. Handles the oil cooling and has a thermostat built right in. Nice neat package.
