steering column gromet

I have been having a cold air draft blowing on my feet. the problem is
the gromet where the steeiing column goes through the firewall has had
it. several yrs ago I fixed it with some silicone, was ok for a while. now
the other side has ripped open.

Called Phill, said the part is $15.00 and with shipping probably $25.00.
to check the dealer. called Stahl Motors in Monterey, Ca. and the part
has to come out of Germany, take 7 to 10 days. cost $17.70.

My question is, has any one ever done this job? Iam sure all the 123`s
still running around have the original gromets. what have you all been
doing with this problem, if this is a problem?

Can` even emagine if I lived back east with some of that sub zero weather, makes me cold thinking about it.

The part # is 123-462-1396

I`ll keep everyone posted on this project, hopefully I will get a digital
camera for Christmas.
Probably do this in January depending on weather, and after the
Christmas rush finishes going through my wallet.

will also be good time to put in for my Grill badges from MB. the 250000
and the 500000 KM.

Looks like I`ll have to pull the column to replace the darn thing.

Thread ends, and leaves ya hangin.

I hate it when Iam searching for something, the thread ends, and leaves ya hangin. it never gets to the punch line

OK, Iam guilty. here it is 09, and this was back in 07. I was reading another thread to replace one in a W201, so looked up the one when I replaced it. so here is the follow up.
