Time for some glow plugs,TIS THE SEASON
Last time I replaced them was never.Bought this 300d 2 years ago and have never had an issue with the old glowers.I did realize after driving my other cars that the glow plug system will give you a sign that somethings up, one sign is the light dosnt glow as long or periodiacally, the second is a little longer to fire off.Luckally this morning I was starting from home base and was able to do the fix in about an hr from some old but still good g plugs I had lying around . Generally this time of year your stuck without a good working glow for start up.Im going in and replacing these with new ones this evening ,would hate to get caught in a mild flurry here in south Texas.Kidding aside ,you guys that live up north and are dealing with the harsh weather mother nature has dealt out ,keep safe .

It is also the time of year that tests the battery amperage, correct oil viscosity, fuel.......

Yes, I put in a fresh set of glow plugs in August so I would not have starting problems in the winter. I am looking out the window at very heavy snow falling, but even at -4 deg the car starts up right away.

I put in a fresh GP as soon as one burns out in my 617 engines but I did replace all the GP at the same time in my 603 engine because of the difficulty (taking off the intake manifold) to replace them. Actually by time I got all the Monarchs out, all the terminals were broken off.
No more Monarchs for me. I replaced them all with Bosch. P E H Last edited by P.E.Haiges; 12-13-2007 at 11:16 PM. |

How does one remove the last (#6) Glow plug without removing the manifold? I have an 87 300d -turbo that has the #6 out... seems crazy to take everything apart but it seems tight on room there.

kerry,
I started to replace the GP in the 603 engine because the GP were so bad, the engine wouldn't start. By the time I got the Monarch GP out, all the terminals were broken off. So it ended up that all the GP needed replacement. So I didn't replace anything that didn't need to be replaced. Had any of the GP from the 603 engine been OK, I would have replaced them with new GP and used the older ones in my 617 engines as required. Does that defrost Hell somewhat? P E H |

I must admit that I have found changing glow plugs on a 606 is easier that a 603. However, I am looking for a way to attach a 606 manifold with Velcro.
